OK i have a turtle that i have been using works really good for PVE, however i wanted to get a pet that would be better for Raids and instances. What is the BEST PET to get for this and why? Also what is the best way to train a Pet to get him up to your lvl and get training points?
Prob a cat. High DPS, the tank will get agro and not the pet. However, Raptors have high DPS and look really really cool. They don't run on 4 legs, they bound on two. That's really really cute, in a vicious sort of way.
I'd have to go with a cat. In fact, I use my cat for almost everything. They have much higher DPS than a turtle, do it will be easier for them to hold mobs. However, they will have less defense than your turtle, so you'll need to use mend pet slightly more often. Overall, the cat is one of the most reliable pets you can find.
Also, cats have the prowl ability, which allows them to turn invisible for an indefinite period of time. As a Night Elf hunter, one can turn completely invisible-- making for an excellent ambush.
For groups, where no one expects or wants you to hold aggro, or where aggro isn't an issue at all. Ravagers have highest dps, they get plus 10% racial bonus, and gore, which does slightly less base damage then claw, but has 50% chance to do double damage. If you hate ravagers, or can't seem to find one, then you should go with a Cat, raptor, or owl, they can all use claw, and all get that same 10% racial damage bonus (most hate having a big distracting owl around)deffinatly make sure you're using the right skills in the instance, turn growl off (in standard group tanks should hold all aggro), teach your pet the highest level of cower you can find (skills drops pets threat based on skill level), teach it claw or gore, DO NOT teach it bite if claw and gor are available, cobra reflexes are useful to. Make sure you teach it avoidance and any appropriate resistances, you want to keep your pets healthy so preists can ignore them, and if you're doing things right, they should only take aoe spell damage. If you have anything left over give it some armor and stamina This is only a training tip for a hunter in an instance when you will not be expected to hold any aggro (deffinatly high end build). This won't be a good pvp build at all, and would be a poor solo build.
